Common cooling problems we fix

Not sure which one you have? Call and describe it. We will help you figure out what to do next.

AC runs but the house does not cool

Low airflow, a dirty coil, a refrigerant problem or a failing component can all keep an AC running without cooling.

Warm air from the vents

A tripped breaker, a failed outdoor unit or a refrigerant problem can send warm air through the house.

Frozen coil or ice on the lines

Restricted airflow or a refrigerant problem often causes ice. Turn the AC off, let it thaw and call us.

Water around the indoor unit

A clogged condensate drain is a common cause. Left alone, it can leave water damage.

Loud or unusual noises

Squealing, grinding, rattling or buzzing from the outdoor or indoor unit can mean a worn motor, loose part or failing component.

Short cycling or constant running

An AC that turns on and off constantly, or never shuts off, is working harder than it should.

Weak airflow or hot and cold rooms

Clogged filters, duct problems and blocked returns can leave some rooms uncomfortable.

An old AC that keeps needing repairs

We will walk you through the numbers on repairing versus replacing and help you choose the right size system.

What to expect on a cooling visit

  1. You call or request service online
Call 423-948-8016 (Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM) or send the request form. Tell us what the system is doing, any noises, smells or error codes, and roughly how old the equipment is.
  2. We line up your visit
We work to get a technician to you the same day when we can. Home Care 360 members go to the front of the line when the schedule fills up. After hours we take emergency calls for no heat, no cooling and water leaks.
  3. The technician finds the cause
The technician starts with the thermostat, filter and airflow, then checks the outdoor unit, indoor coil, condensate drain and electrical components to find out why the house is not cooling.
  4. You get the options and a firm price
We explain what we found in plain language, give you a firm price, and you approve it before any work starts. The service call is $99 on weekdays and $149 after hours (waived if you buy the job). Home Care 360 members pay no weekday dispatch fee.
  5. We do the work
Once you approve, we make the repair or do the replacement you chose. If a repair does not make sense, we will say so.
  6. We clean up and check the result
Then we clean up and make sure you are comfortable with the result before we go.

Repair or replace?

Age, efficiency, repair cost and the size of the system all matter, and bigger is not always better. We explain the options so you can decide with the full picture.

Cooling FAQ

How often should an AC be tuned up?

Once a year, before cooling season, is the common recommendation. Home Care 360 includes a spring cooling tune-up.

Should I repair or replace my AC?

Age, efficiency and repair cost all matter. We will tell you what makes sense and explain the options, so you can decide with the full picture.

What size system do I need?

The right size depends on your home, its insulation and its ductwork, and bigger is not always better. We will look at your home and explain the options before any work starts.

What does an AC service call cost?

The service call is $99 on weekdays and $149 after hours (waived if you buy the job). Home Care 360 members pay no weekday dispatch fee. You get a firm price for any repair or replacement and approve it before work starts.

What do I do if my AC is frozen?

Turn the AC off at the thermostat so the ice can thaw, and do not chip at it. A dirty filter is a common cause, so check that, then call us if it freezes again or will not cool.

Why is there water around my indoor unit?

A clogged condensate drain is the most common cause. Turn the system off to stop more water from collecting and call us.

Do you offer emergency cooling service?

Yes. After hours and on weekends we take emergency calls for no heat, no cooling and water leaks. The $149 after-hours fee is waived if you buy the job. Call 423-948-8016.

Which towns do you serve?

Jake's Home Services serves Erwin, Unicoi County & the Tri-Cities. See our service areas page for the full list.
