Common electrical problems we fix

Not sure which one you have? Call and describe it. We will help you figure out what to do next.

Breakers that keep tripping

An overloaded circuit, a faulty appliance or a wiring problem can trip a breaker. Resetting it again and again does not fix the cause.

Outlets or switches that do not work

A dead outlet can be a tripped GFCI, a loose connection or a failed device.

Warm outlets, buzzing or a burning smell

These are warning signs. Stop using the outlet or switch, and if there is smoke or fire, leave the home and call 911.

Flickering or dimming lights

Loose connections, a failing fixture or a circuit that is overloaded can make lights flicker or dim.

An old or crowded panel

Older panels can run out of room or show wear. We look at the panel and explain what an upgrade involves before any work starts.

Missing GFCI or arc-fault protection

GFCI protection helps guard against shock near water, and arc-fault protection helps guard against wiring faults that can cause fires.

Lighting and fixture installation

New fixtures, replaced switches and added outlets, installed safely.

Safety inspections

A look at outlets, breakers and detectors to catch small problems early.

What to expect on a electrical visit

  1. You call or request service online
Call 423-948-8016 (Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM) or send the request form. Tell us what the system is doing, any noises, smells or error codes, and roughly how old the equipment is.
  2. We line up your visit
We work to get a technician to you the same day when we can. Home Care 360 members go to the front of the line when the schedule fills up. After hours we take emergency calls for no heat, no cooling and water leaks.
  3. The technician finds the cause
The technician checks the affected circuit, breaker, outlet or fixture, and the connections at the panel, handling the power safely, to find the cause rather than just the symptom.
  4. You get the options and a firm price
We explain what we found in plain language, give you a firm price, and you approve it before any work starts. The service call is $99 on weekdays and $149 after hours (waived if you buy the job). Home Care 360 members pay no weekday dispatch fee.
  5. We do the work
Once you approve, we make the repair or do the replacement you chose. If a repair does not make sense, we will say so.
  6. We clean up and check the result
Then we clean up and make sure you are comfortable with the result before we go.

Older homes and added-on rooms across Unicoi County and the Tri-Cities can have older panels and wiring that were not built for today's electrical loads. If your home has older wiring, a tripping breaker or a warm outlet is worth having checked.

Repair or replace?

For a panel or old wiring, we look at what you have, explain what an upgrade involves and give you a firm price before any work starts.

Electrical FAQ

Do you take electrical calls after hours?

No. After-hours emergency calls are only for no heat, no cooling and water leaks. Electrical problems are urgent daytime service, Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM: call us and we will schedule it as soon as we can. If you smell burning, see smoke or sparks, or there is fire, leave the home and call 911 first.

Why does my breaker keep tripping?

It can be an overloaded circuit, a faulty appliance or a wiring problem. Do not keep resetting it. Call and we will diagnose it.

Do you do panel upgrades?

Yes. Panel upgrades are part of our electrical services. Call us and we will look at your panel and explain what the job involves before any work starts.

Is an electrical inspection part of Home Care 360?

Yes, one annual electrical inspection (smoke/CO detectors, GFCI, arc-fault breakers and more) is included. See the membership page.

What does an electrical service call cost?

The service call is $99 on weekdays. Home Care 360 members pay no weekday dispatch fee. You get a firm price for any repair or installation and approve it before work starts.

Is a warm outlet dangerous?

It can be. A warm outlet, a buzzing sound or a burning smell can mean a loose connection or overload. Stop using it, and keep away from it if you see smoke or sparks. If there is fire or smoke, leave the home and call 911. Then call us.

What do GFCI and arc-fault protection do?

GFCI protection shuts off power quickly to help guard against shock, especially near water. Arc-fault protection helps guard against wiring faults that can start fires. Home Care 360 includes testing both once a year.

Why do my lights flicker?

A loose connection, a failing bulb or fixture, or an overloaded circuit can cause it. If it happens often or across the house, call us and we will find the cause.

Do you work on generators?

Generators are on our electrical services list. Call us and tell us what you have, and we will explain what we can do.

Which towns do you serve?
