Common heating problems we fix
Not sure which one you have? Call and describe it. We will help you figure out what to do next.
Furnace will not start or keeps shutting off
Ignition, flame-sensing, limit-switch, thermostat and airflow problems are common reasons a furnace will not stay running.
No heat, or not enough heat
A clogged filter, weak airflow, a failed blower motor or a heat source that is not firing can leave rooms cold.
Uneven heat from room to room
Duct leaks, blocked returns and a system that is out of balance can leave some rooms warm and others cold.
Strange noises or smells
Banging, squealing and rattling usually mean something is worn or loose. A gas smell is an emergency: see the safety steps on our emergency page.
Heat pump not heating
A heat pump that blows cool air, runs constantly, or has heavy ice on the outdoor unit that does not clear needs a look.
Short cycling and rising bills
A system that turns on and off constantly or costs more to run every year is often telling you something is wrong or wearing out.
An old system with repeated repairs
When repairs keep stacking up, we will walk you through the numbers on repairing versus replacing.
What to expect on a heating visit
- You call or request service online
Call 423-948-8016 (Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM) or send the request form. Tell us what the system is doing, any noises, smells or error codes, and roughly how old the equipment is. - We line up your visit
We work to get a technician to you the same day when we can. Home Care 360 members go to the front of the line when the schedule fills up. After hours we take emergency calls for no heat, no cooling and water leaks. - The technician finds the cause
The technician starts with the thermostat, filter and airflow, then checks the ignition or heat source, blower and safety controls to find out why the system is not doing its job. - You get the options and a firm price
We explain what we found in plain language, give you a firm price, and you approve it before any work starts. The service call is $99 on weekdays and $149 after hours (waived if you buy the job). Home Care 360 members pay no weekday dispatch fee. - We do the work
Once you approve, we make the repair or do the replacement you chose. If a repair does not make sense, we will say so. - We clean up and check the result
Then we clean up and make sure you are comfortable with the result before we go.
Heating service in Erwin and nearby towns
Winters in the Unicoi County foothills and the Tri-Cities area are long enough that the heating system carries a lot of the year, and many homes here have older equipment. A fall check before the first cold snap is far better than finding out on the coldest night.
Repair or replace?
Age, repair history, efficiency and cost all matter. We explain both options with numbers and tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense before we suggest a replacement.
Heating FAQ
How often should a heating system be serviced?
Most manufacturers recommend service once a year before the heating season. Home Care 360 includes a fall heating tune-up.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
It depends on age, repair history and cost. We will explain both options with numbers and tell you if a repair makes sense.
Do you work on heat pumps?
Yes. Heat pump repair and service is part of our heating work. Call us, tell us what your system is doing, and we will explain what we can do.
What does a heating service call cost?
The service call is $99 on weekdays and $149 after hours (waived if you buy the job). Home Care 360 members pay no weekday dispatch fee. You get a firm price for any repair or replacement and approve it before work starts.
Do you offer emergency heating service?
Yes. After hours and on weekends we take emergency calls for no heat, no cooling and water leaks. The $149 after-hours fee is waived if you buy the job. Call 423-948-8016.
What should I check before I call?
Make sure the thermostat is set to heat and has fresh batteries if it uses them, the air filter is not clogged, the furnace switch and breaker are on, and the vents are open. If it still will not run, call us.
My furnace is making noise. Is it serious?
Not always, but banging, squealing or grinding is worth checking before it becomes a failure. Turn the system off if the noise is loud or you smell burning, and call us. If you smell gas, leave the home and call 911 from outside.
Which towns do you serve?
Jake's Home Services serves Erwin, Unicoi County & the Tri-Cities. See our service areas page for the full list.
